Aerial Bunched Cables:
"midlite"
brand Aerial Bunded Cables are manufactured in
conformance to IS:14255/1995 or as per customer's specification. Most
of the faults in overhead power supply system occur due to failure in
transmission lines, resulting in immense loss and inconvenience to
consumers. The main weakness of overhead lines are that its power
carrying conductors are bare. To overcome, this deficiency, Aerial
Bunched Cables Systems have been introduced at many places across the
world. Aerial Bunded Cables are basically a compromise construction
between power cables and overhead conductors. As far as basic
construction goes there are three or four power carrying conductors
suitably insulated and laid around a bare or insulated weight -
carrying conductor which also serves as earth/neutral conductor. The
cable is hanged on tranission poles/towers as per suitabliity. Since,
the cores are insulated the chances of faults reduces to a great extent.
Constructional
Details:
Power and
Neutral Core: The conductoris compared of H2 or H4 grade
Aluminium of Class 2 Grade conforming to IS:8130/84. Popular sizes are
16 sq. mm to 95 sq. mm. The insulation is either XLPE or Polythlene as
per requirements.
Messenger
Conductor: These are made of either galvanized steel
or aluminium alloys.
Core
Identification: By embossing numbers 1,2,3 on sheath of
insulated cores.
Advantages
of Aerial Bunch Cables are as follows:
- These are cheaper
than power cables.
- Cores being
insulated, the chance of power thefts are
eliminated.
- Cores being
insulated, the chance of faults due to
falling of
trees or birds are eliminated.
- These can be laid
in places where, due to lack of
space, power
cables cannot be laid.
- Insulation helps to
prevent corrosion of conductor.
- These cables are
safe for crossing of telecommunication
lines.
As these
cables are laid on poles, aluminum conductor with
maximum size
of 95 sq. mm are normally used. Due to above mentioned advantages these
types of cables are gradually getting widespread acceptance.
